FAQ’s
What wood do you use?
We use solid teak ( Tectonics Grandis), the locals call it SAC. We do not
use veneers in our furniture. We use reclaimed teak and growth plantation
teak from Burmese Government managed plantations. Reclaimed teak comes from
old houses, doors, windows, floorboards and gateposts. Also many old teak
bridges are being removed to make way for new. We only use reclaimed teak
that still contains the original oils and so retains its natural strength
and durability. Our plantation teak is the highest quality old growth teak.
We will not use force grown immature timber that is often poor quality.
Does teak wrap or crack?
All our teak is the highest quality and is well seasoned with low moisture
content and will not crack or warp under normal use. Teak is a natural
product and changes in temperature and humidity or the environment will
cause it to expand or contract. Actually, teak expands and contracts much
less than most other timber, so the likelihood is small. However, we go to
great lengths to ensure there is no problem. We design our furniture to
ensure there are no weak points.
Can I choose the colour?
Yes. We offer the following colours; standard, natural, medium brown, and
dark brown. Light, Medium and Dark finish – What does this mean? We offer
three standard finishes to our teak furniture. Light, Medium, and Dark. The
Light finish is not stained and shows the natural colours of the teak wood.
Which is golden yellow like butter. The medium brown finish is the colour of
most of the furniture shown on the website as it shows up best on the
screen; this is stained medium brown which shows the natural beauty of the
teak wood. The dark brown finish, which has become very fashionable is
stained a darker brown than medium. You should always be careful when buying
dark brown stained teak furniture many manufacturers like to sell dark brown
stained and waxed furniture as it hides any imperfections in the wood. After
we have made your piece of furniture we will e-mail you close-up pictures of
the piece in it’s raw state prior to the required finish. Siam Old Teak only
use the highest quality teak no matter what colour finish you require.
Can I come and see the furniture before I buy?
Of course you can come and see our furniture, we want to show you our
furniture, we are proud of it. We understand that buying furniture is a
major commitment and we want you to be completely comfortable with your
purchase. However, please note that in order for us to offer the lowest
possible prices we keep our stock levels to a minimum so we may not have the
exact piece available immediately to show you. We do keep samples of our
most popular pieces at our show house in Hua Hin and these are always
available for inspection, just give us a call and we will arrange a
convenient time for you to come and have a look, we will even meet you in
Hua Hin and take you up to the house it’s only a ten minute drive up the
mountain. And then take you back to town later.
Why does it take 4 weeks to deliver?
We build most of the furniture to order. The production process is important
and we do not rush as this would result in inferior quality. We don’t mass
produce furniture, we do try to keep a small inventory of our most popular
items for immediate delivery so call us and we might be able to deliver the
next day.
Can you make it smaller/bigger?
Yes. People are different sizes so why should you put up with furniture that
doesn’t fit you or your home. All you need to do is tell us the dimensions
and we will do the rest for you. Better still we will visit you at home and
take all the details there.
How do I care for my furniture?
Our furniture is finished to the highest standard and is very low
maintenance. All that is required is a wipe down with a damp cloth about
once a week. Liquid spills should be wiped up immediately and we recommend
you always use coasters and place mats to protect the finish from excessive
heat.
How long will my furniture last?
The teak furniture you purchase is built to last. Teak is a very robust
wood, it resists moisture, decay and parasites, and Teak has been used for
centuries for the construction of ocean going ships as it copes easily with
extreme weather conditions and is extremely strong.
What do you recommend to use for caring for furniture ?
Our manager will discuss caring for your furniture, and leave you with a
care kit. We recommend that you wax your teak furniture every two months, we
normally use Fiddes wax .For best results the wax should be applied and left
overnight before lightly buffing.
Is the furniture unique ?
All our furniture is supplied directly from our factory to our site in Hua
Hin then onto you the customer. Our factory doesn’t make furniture for any
other supplier so your furniture is unique to you, you wont see the same
piece cheaper anywhere else, however, should you see something of a similar
quality in solid teak at a cheaper price we will refund the difference,
guaranteed.
Bespoke service
All our stock pieces can be delivered within a few days, however, should you
require a special size we can normally make it for you within 3 weeks at a
nominal extra charge. All our pieces are delivered in one piece unless
access to your home is limited or you have ordered a large wardrobe or
table. Normally we survey access to you your home prior to delivery of
larger bespoke pieces.
We don’t Glue it or Screw it!
All our pieces are custom made using traditional jointing methods that will
hold the very heavy teak in place. Some companies use industrial glues,
rivets and screws to speed up manufacture, in our experience we find that
this process only benefits the manufacturer and due to the terrific weight
of teak problems often occur.
Guarantees
We are so confident in our furniture that we will give you a lifetime
guarantee and if you’re not satisfied with your furniture a 100% money back
guarantee (in writing).
